Meet your representatives

Sally Gallaugher
Elected

I’ve had 3 children go through Churchill Park School. My daughter is at college now and my 2 sons are in years 4 and 6. I have been involved in lots of different ways at the School which has given me a good appreciation of what goes on behind the scenes to keep it moving forward and striving for high quality education. It has also given me time to see aspects of the School that have worked well for my children and some that haven’t. As parents and caregivers, we might have different ideas about how we want our children’s school to look, but we all want our children to be happy and to thrive. I am running for the Board of Trustees election because I am passionate about public education that first and foremost, supports the wellbeing of our tamariki. Without that, learning can’t happen. The things I love about Churchill Park School are how it connects the local community. How our children can walk or cycle to school, meeting friends along the way. And how there’s a safe, fun environment with kind, friendly adults waiting for them once they get there.

I work part-time at the University of Auckland in public health research and teaching. I have been involved in a long-term study of children’s health and wellbeing and I am currently working on a project to prevent hospital re-admissions for children with respiratory illnesses. I will bring my research and analytical skills and my experience in tertiary education to the Board of Trustees role, as well as my enthusiasm and ideas. (For example, I would love to see more opportunities for parents and caregivers to give their views on big decisions). Most of all, I will bring a commitment to working with the rest of the Board to represent you in the strategic decisions that impact us all. The decisions that make Churchill Park School the best place for our tamariki to start their education journey.

Kia ora Churchill Park School whānau.

I'm Janine Penrose, and I'm standing for election for the Churchill Park School Board.

I've been a proud CPS parent for over 8 years. While our eldest, Milla, is gearing up for her next adventure at Glendowie College in 2024, my husband Lawrie and I still have Sasha in Year 7 and Gus in Year 4. The Penroses are in it for the long haul!

If elected, I’ll bring a pragmatic and thoughtful approach on behalf of our fantastic school community. I've spent my career in marketing, working for multinationals and smaller businesses, mainly in the food and beverage industry. Marketing is all about strategy and execution, and I believe those skills will be invaluable during Board discussions. I’m used to balancing the needs of multiple parties to achieve great outcomes for the business. I advocate for my brands and projects and I will advocate for the ākonga if I’m elected. I’ve also managed large marketing budgets so am confident reading a P&L.

I've been an active member of the PTA in various forms for many years, and I’m helping to organise the Year 8 Leavers’ Dinner this year.

With experience across all syndicates, I have a good grasp of how our school works. Both my girls are in Rangitoto whānau this year, so it’s been a great opportunity to see how the older children grow into school leaders. Our small, supportive school community is important to us and is something that makes our school special.

I'm looking forward to meeting those of you whose path I haven't crossed yet. My hope for CPS is that every child experiences the same great learning opportunities my own children have had, especially those who might need extra support. Let's continue to make our school a place where everyone feels included and respected.

If elected, I will put our school community, especially our ākonga, at the heart of everything I do.
